Volunteer Toolkit

Being a volunteer with Health for Humanity means...

"I  slept and dreamt that life was joy. I awoke and saw that life was service. I acted and behold service was joy."
Rabindranath Tagore

Being a part of Health for Humanity as staff, a board member, or volunteer means we are all helping others fulfill their purpose for the betterment of society.

The engine that drives HH's success is the yearning in the heart of every human being to make a difference and to be used as a channel for progress. To preserve this precious and priceless resource, we honor, nurture, appreciate, and will do our best to facilitate this longing into action. HH understands that everyone has something precious to offer so our challenge is to facilitate the opportunity to serve.

In order for all of us to be accountable to the same standard, we created guidelines that explains key principles, expectations, and protocols when collaborating with organizations, communities, and individuals.

  4. Review Key Principles  and materials sent to you over email
  5. Dress comfortably and modest for task
  6. Have fun, smile a lot, and make friends
  7. Complete paper work
  8. Tell others about the great time you had and sign them up
  9. Stay around, we'll need you again!

Key principles that guide HH activities

  • Nobility of Humanity - People have an inherent capacity for nobility. If nurtured, qualities such as trustworthiness, compassion, selflessness, dedication, loyalty, sacrifice and service can triumph over baser impulses.
  • Group Consultation- Appreciating the diversity of various cultures- and their unique circumstances- it is clear no single approach can be applied to all situations. A collaborative effort at the local level is necessary to identify local needs and devise programs to address them. One way of achieving this is through group consultation- frank and open discussion occurring within the supportive atmosphere of common and agreed-upon goals.
  • Unified Service - When all come together and act in unison, each one supporting his fellow, the outcome is inevitably creative and leads to dramatic progress. The plans which emerge invariably gain wide acceptance. For the individual, these actions in support of the common good enable the development of the noble nature.
  • Comprehensive Health- Emotional, intellectual, spiritual and physical well-being are all required for an individual or community to be truly healthy.

"The highest station that an individual can attain in this life is the station of servitude... intellectually medicine appealed to me... but this (Health for Humanity) would be a great pathway to service..."

Co-founder, Dr. May Khadem
